MONTAGUE COUNTY, Tex. -- Bradley Taylor, the man who escaped the Love County Jail on Monday, and the jailer who helped him escape were caught in Bowie, Texas, on Tuesday morning.
Love County authorities say they received a tip Tuesday morning that Taylor and his accomplice, Tina Marie Smith, were at a grocery store in St. Jo, Texas.
Love County officials contacted the Montague County Sheriff's Office, and deputies found them in front of a senior center in Bowie, Texas.
Authorities say Smith is wanted on felony charges of assisting a prisoner to escape. Authorities believe the two met while he was in jail, where he was a trustee. Taylor only had 16 days left to serve in Love County. He is also wanted elsewhere.
Love Co. Sheriff Joe Russell says, "He had warrants out of Texas we were not aware of. [They] put warrants on him since he has been here. We found that out this [Monday] morning."
Authorities are trying to figure out why one of their own would help a prisoner escape.
"I really don’t know. I hadn’t had a chance to talk to her or see her much. We just brought them in so we'll do some interviewing and then go from there," Love County Under Sheriff Jason Bone said.
Smith worked for Love County on more than one occasion, most recently as a jailer, where authorities say she had worked for at least two months.
Investigators believe Smith met Taylor while we worked at the jail. She faces felony charges of assisting a prisoner to escape. Her bond has been set at $100,000.
Taylor’s bond has been denied, and further charges are pending.
