MONTAGUE COUNTY, Tex. -- Bradley Taylor, the man who escaped the Love County Jail on Monday, and the jailer who helped him escape were caught in Bowie, Texas, on Tuesday morning.

Love County authorities say they received a tip Tuesday morning that Taylor and his accomplice, Tina Marie Smith, were at a grocery store in St. Jo, Texas.

Love County officials contacted the Montague County Sheriff's Office, and deputies found them in front of a senior center in Bowie, Texas.

Authorities say Smith is wanted on felony charges of assisting a prisoner to escape. Authorities believe the two met while he was in jail, where he was a trustee. Taylor only had 16 days left to serve in Love County. He is also wanted elsewhere.

Love Co. Sheriff Joe Russell says, "He had warrants out of Texas we were not aware of. [They] put warrants on him since he has been here. We found that out this [Monday] morning."

Authorities are trying to figure out why one of their own would help a prisoner escape.

"I really don’t know. I hadn’t had a chance to talk to her or see her much. We just brought them in so we'll do some interviewing and then go from there," Love County Under Sheriff Jason Bone said.

Smith worked for Love County on more than one occasion, most recently as a jailer, where authorities say she had worked for at least two months.

Investigators believe Smith met Taylor while we worked at the jail. She faces felony charges of assisting a prisoner to escape. Her bond has been set at $100,000.

Taylor’s bond has been denied, and further charges are pending.

Posted by J location Thackerville.....so is that a threat? I believe that what I do on my personal time is my business, kind of like what you do on yours! So, Julie do you really want to do it this way? Was my step dad as in he and my mother have been divorced for 27 years. Let me assure you that my kids come first. I see that you still want to hide behind a fake name....Leave my kids out of this! You know where I am if you think you really want to discuss this. Stick to the story.........about Tina and Brad

Posted by: dont understand Location: thackerville on Mar 19, 2008 at 02:28 PM
I'm not understanding why personal lives are being brought into the discussion of escapees!!!! The way I view it, all those who have personal comments to make, must live in glass houses and have no kids who might hear of these comments! My comment is GROW UP! Get back to the subject- of Tina and Brad and the stupid mistake that THEY made!!!!!!

I AM A MARIETTA CITIZEN WHO IS RETIRED, I DRIVE BY THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE QUITE A BIT, MUST BE A PRETTY GOOD JOB, THE SHERIFF, EMPLOYEES AND "DAY-CARE" KIDS ARE ALWAYS OUT ON THE PORCH. THE SHERIFF IS ALWAYS SITTING IN HIS SAME SPOT DUHHHH!

For Anonymous the unpaid officers you are talking about are reserve officers and they choose to be unpaid. It is up to the Official in each dept. to use their money at their discretion. Maybe you need to go to the County Clerk's office and check the public records and see just what the SO budget is. I wish I could drive one of the worn out deputy cars they are probably better than what you can afford. If you will read the minutes in the local paper you will realize who is actually buying the cars for the SO, it happens to be our county board you were talking about. About the pay and the benefits for the SO they knew what it was when they hired on. I think we need to stick to the business at hand there is no one to blame but Tina and Brad and the poor decisions they made. It has nothing to do with what she gets paid or how much money the jail has or how they choose to spend it. If you want the job sign up for the Sheriff's position is the first week in June 2008.

I am the "ex wife". We are all past this people, we have moved on. Let's get back to Brad and Tina and leave me out of this.

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 18, 2008 at 09:02 PM
I guess that is why it is called "Love" "County"!!! I want a job too!!!

Posted by: J Location: Love County on Mar 18, 2008 at 08:52 PM
Was her step dad? What happened? Did he drop her? Or was it when his undersheriff went to dating her while he was still married? But Joe said it was ok! I guess that Tina isn't the only one that worked for the county that doesn't think about the kids!! But I guess Joe says it's ok? I guess if they see their boss doing it it makes it ok?!? The bad thing is that the undersheriff's now ex-wife worked there at the time and had no idea what was going on. But I guess Joe said it was ok. Now there was another dispatcher and deputy fall in love there but they got married and moved away (after his divorce). I guess I will go apply at the SO for a job so I can find my true love!! If Joe says it is ok!

"Do you people realize that the Sheriff makes only $2342.81 a month and that jailers only make $7.87 per hour with no insurance or benefits?"... but he gets paid mileage on his truck that he uses for anything. Even to be out at Ten Buck 2!!! People listen to your scanner. If he doesn't get paid that much how can someone afford such nice vehicles? Why does his deputies have to drive worn out vehicles? It is due to our county board. They won't give a dime. Kinda like 911 addressing, they don't want to "mess with it". Did you know that the SO force is mainly made up of unpaid officers? Election time is coming..... Go to the polls people!!! Lets bring this county up people. See you at the polls!

Posted by: J Location: Thackerville on Mar 17, 2008 at 12:25 PM
Sheritha should know Joe very well, he was her step-dad, AND her husband is the undersheriff. Ask her how she met her man. Better yet ask the undersheriff's ex wife how they met!! PROOF enough for you Mrs. Bone. I know someone that can prove things you don't want proven, my dear.

CHLOE YOU HAVE TO BREAK THE LAW BEFORE YOU GO TO JAIL. IF U DONT BELIEVE ME ASK TINA SMITH. AS FOR MARGIE SOUNDS LIKE YOU BEEN TURNED DOWN ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS TO HAVE SUCH A POOR ATTITUDE TOWARD OUR SHERIFF.

Posted by: Sheritha Bone Location: Love County on Mar 15, 2008 at 03:15 AM
Margie in Thackerville, a history lesson on Joe Russell I do not need if you knew your FACTS you might know this. If you think you know so much about relatives working at the sheriff's office show proof! Prove that he has relatives working there. That is illegal, do your research then speak. Might I ask how it is that you think you know that he was aware of Beth's wrong doing? Do you know this for a fact? Proof people, not slander. Goodness do you know what that is? This issue is about Tina Smith and Bradley Taylor and a very bad decision they made, will have to live with and pay for. Go ahead and pass judgement on the Sheriff and his department, but remember someday others may pass judgement on you. I guess that might be one of those life lessons you're talking about, huh! Thank you very much for your comment concerned in Oklahoma you said a mouth full and it is very appreciaated.

Posted by: Sheritha Bone Location: Love County Employee on Mar 12, 2008 at 03:57 PM I know Joe very well I have had dealing with him in the past. I have been asked by some people about his past to help keep him from the job that he is doing. There is always a way to get more money and more help. I know let's just say several people that have not been in jail that have a prole with Joe. And most of these people Joe says they are friend. So call me what you will I know JOE...

SHERIFF BONER IS HIS NAME

Posted by: JOANNA Location: MARIETTA on Mar 14, 2008 at 08:59 PM
SO YOU PEOPLE THINK YOUR SHERIFF IS SO GREAT. WHY DON'T YOU ASK HIM WHY HIS DAUGHTER THAT DIED 14 YEARS AGO DOESN'T HAVE A MARKER AT HER GRAVE. HE NEVER HAS HAD ANYTHING THING TO DO WITH HIS GRANDDAUGHTER UNTIL IT WAS IN THE NEWS ABOUT HER BEING ATTACKED BY A DOG. AS HOW MUCH HE HELPED HER MOTHER BEFORE SHE DIED.

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 13, 2008 at 09:48 PM
Well I happen to work for lcso and our sheriffs does a very good job with what he has to work with. It is not his fault that trashy women wanted to fall in love with a inmate and help him escape. all this is her fault and she will suffer cause of it or i should say her kids will. so please think it over before you mouth our sheriff he is a very honest and has a good heart.

Posted by: Concerned Location: Oklahoma on Mar 13, 2008 at 09:03 PM
By the way I am Vicki and I live in Marietta. I know there are those who support and those who would like to have a new Sheriff, that is why we have campaigns and elections, however this forum is designed to voice our opinions on this news story and that is my entire point. No one should be blaming Sheriff Russel or anyone else for the actions of this woman. The budget is ridiculous! All of these people (the sheriff, deputies, dispatchers, jailers and office staff) lay their lives on the line for this community. They deserve our support in the form of dollars, praise and cooperation if and when needed. Ms. Smith did a horrible and stupid thing, however her actions were her own! The Sheriff nor anyone in the Department are responsible for this. Maybe budget increases and other updated equipment may keep anything like this from happening again. Point – Ms. Tina Marie Smith stood alone in her decision and should remain alone when the blame is being passed around!

WHY IS THIS MAN STILL SHERIFF HE SHOULD BE BEHIND BARS

Posted by: Margie Location: Thackerville on Mar 13, 2008 at 04:03 PM
Mrs. Bone needs a history lesson. I do not think you know the facts surrounding our sheriffs dating practices. He knew fullwell of his former girlfriends crime, but stayed with her until she was shipped out to prison. what loyality, or was there something else? Some residents in Love couty have good memories not just selective memories.I truely think sheriff Russell is probably a good ole guy, but needs to learn a few more of lifes lessons, but not at the expense of our county. We look like the laughing stock of southern Oklahoma and north Texas. By the way how many relatives are working at the Love County S.O. I personally know of at least three maybe four.

I wonder who "very disappointed" from Leon, America is?!

Posted by: Fingerprintless on Mar 13, 2008 at 11:12 AM
Got to agree with Trailer Trash.......I'm a Love County resident & a Concealed Weapons Licensee, had my fingerprints sent back from the City 3 times beacuse Love County couldn't do them right. Talked to the Sheriff about it to no avail. And was charged for something that was never completed! Finally had to go to the FBI office in the City to have it done right!!! Third time a charm, not in Love County:) You Go Trailer Trash!!!!

Posted by: Opinionated Location: Ardmore on Mar 13, 2008 at 10:25 AM
Come-On, it would be very difficult for her to destroy warrents as they are not kept in the jail. As are other records. Good law enforcement is not a scam. Granted, a large portion of them do let the job go to their heads.

Posted by: Sherith Bone Location: Love County Employee on Mar 13, 2008 at 09:53 AM
Margie in Thackerville, his girlfriend was the one who did that not him. Who are you to judge him for something some one else did. That would be like some one judging you for something that was done by some one you knew. Kinda stupid isn't it!

Posted by: c Location: Tx on Mar 13, 2008 at 06:27 AM
Dear Anonymous in Oklahoma. First of all, that jailer made it everyone's business once she got her 15 minutes of fame helping her prison love. lol. This is ridiculous. Don't defend her or her actions. There is a clear line that she crossed, hopefully she'll pay. Either way it was wrong. Your defense of her says too much about you. lol.

Seems like sheriff Joe is always in a messy situation with a woman. Not too many years ago as an undesheriff his girlfriend was in the jail for grand larceny. She did her crime and her time in the same jail where Tina met her man. Is this a very much repeated event? The sheriffs woman went to the pen. Will TIna for a lesser crime in my eyes. The sheriff galfriend stole in excess of a hundred thousand and I dont mean kisses, while they were going steady. Check it out.

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 12, 2008 at 05:23 PM
Iwould like to see you that judge, work with a budget like Mr.Russell does. grow up look at the good work the sheriff does

Posted by: Sheritha Bone Location: Love County Employee on Mar 12, 2008 at 03:57 PM
As to the release of her name, that was the Love County District Attorney's idea, not the sheriff's. As for badges don't scare me, if you'd listen to the story you would know that she was a jailer not an officer. You say law enforcement is a scam, but you wait until you need one of them, or a family member needs one of them. Nobody likes a cop unless they need one then they want one there right then! A law enforcement officer gives up time with their family to help people at any time. My father is Chief of Police in a small town in Oklahoma and I can tell you that he has missed many special occasions due to trying to help other people and he wouldn't have it any other way because he loves what he does! Thank You to all law enforcment for all that you do. I appreciate all that you do. I know you don't hear that enough.

Posted by: Sheritha Bone Location: Love County Employee on Mar 12, 2008 at 03:38 PM
I agree what Tina did was wrong and she should be punished. I think it's sad that most of you people hide behond a made up name and run your mouth. Seems to me that if you believe in what you say you woulnd't be ahsamed to post your name.......huh, here we go again. Trailer Trash....maybe if we had the money to purchase updated equipment you would be happy. How do you know how bad we fingerprint? Have you been arrested? Seems to me if you have a problem with the way the sheriff's office is ran the proper thing would be to go talk to the sheriff not hide behind your computer.

Posted by: COME-ON on Mar 12, 2008 at 03:31 PM
What Tina Marie did was off the charts STUPID, but some the remarks here take the cake. He did not force her! Who is holding who's hand? You-who People! how hard would it be for jail personnel to modify records or destroy warrants? Why didn't they run? Why were they shopping? Could it be that she thought she had destroyed and/or made enough changes that no one would be looking? I do not know nor have reason to know the Sheriff, but to lay blame on him just seems silly. Tina's life is here, her children, her family and friends. She had been a good employee, yep when she decided to mess up it was a doozy! But still there are only two people to blame in all of this - Tina Marie Smith and Bradley Taylor. Brad had been a model prisoner who had earned a trustee position with only 16 days left to serve. Hind sight is 20-20, Could you have seen this one coming?

Posted by: Sheritha Location: Love County Employee on Mar 12, 2008 at 03:30 PM
Here we go again........about the budget, where are you when it comes budget meeting time? I bet not at the meeting. Did you know the there is a thing called an Excise Board and the County Commissioners decide what department gets how much money. Joe has got a good group of employees you can not judge all of us by one person's actions. I guess you're anti law enforcement. Maybe you should apply for a position at the jail..........but maybe you're afraid you're not perfect either. Thank you STILL. I hope people do the same. Big Bertha......If you know so much about what she has done you should of reported it, but then again you would of had to have facts. Fact, Tina is not in any way related to the sheriff. Get your facts! Do you people realize that the Sheriff makes only $2342.81 a month and that jailers only make $7.87 per hour with no insurance or benefits? We that work at the sheriff's office live in poverty or work more than one job!!!!!!

Posted by: badges dont scare me... Location: paris texas on Mar 12, 2008 at 02:02 PM
sometimes.. the best thing for someone with a nightstick and a badge needs a dose of their own medicine.. law enforcement is such a scam.. LOL

Posted by: here we go again on Mar 12, 2008 at 01:19 PM
Leon- she helped a man excape from jail what else can be said, Also the warrents that were from Texas have been there for awhile becasue he had told other inmates about them. I would like to know if they are sharring a room in the jail since something that one of them can do must be good. About the budget, if Joe would get better help he then can ask for more money, but with news like this no one will help him out, sounds like a change needs to be made.

Posted by: Opinionated Location: Ardmore on Mar 12, 2008 at 12:39 PM
What in the world was that woman thinking? And to "Anonyomus, Steven, and Anonymus", what was stupid is her actions. Now if she was forced into it, that is something different, and it will come out in her trial. And for the love of Pete, will you people use spell check before you post. Do you know how bad you make people from this area look when you post with horrible grammar and even worse spelling?

Posted by: STILL Concerned Location: Oklahoma on Mar 12, 2008 at 12:10 PM
It does not matter how well anyone knows either of these two. Facts are what they are and fact is Ms. Smith left her children, family and friends to take off with this looser. She gave her fellow employees, the county and her boss a big black eye. FOR What? She knew better than anyone the caliber of this guy and what he had done with his life to date, "A Tiger Does Not Change His Strips"! As his jailer she saw him daily, he was a trustee so contact was not limited through the bars, plus his release was so close. What could have possessed this woman? I am proud to say that I do not know either of them. I do hope that the Voters of Love County look at the Full Record of Sheriff Joe Russel and place their vote based on that rather than judging him based on the poor judgment of ONE employee.

Posted by: Trailer Trash Location: Pioneer Valley on Mar 12, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Good thing they found some pics of them, cause Love County can't fingerprint worth a flip. If they had to go by fingerprints, they'd still be running free!!!

Posted by: rikki Location: ardmore on Mar 12, 2008 at 11:14 AM
I think that that cop should not have let that prisoner out of jail because she just got herself in a bunch of trouble!!!

Posted by: Anonymous on Mar 12, 2008 at 09:42 AM
Was this gal so desparate for a man she had to go to work in the county jail to meet one? Whatever happened to the old-fashioned way, like the bar scene? Somehow I sense another country song, or at least a Jerry Springer episode. Too bad that's the caliber of people the Love County sherrif has to choose from........

Keep your chin up Joe. You do a great job in consideration of the budget that you are given to work with. Most people haven't a clue the difficulty to recruit/retain staff when the pay is below the poverty level and no health insurance or benefits are provided. And, when your staff makes mistakes, you then have the integrity to hold them accountable without any cover up on your part.

You need those bars to hold on to your man?? Don't blame the Sheriff. Did you take a look at the county budget (lists employee pay) in the local paper? Someone needs to notify Love that quality has a price tag.
