8-6-05 - When employees at the Texas State Bank in Van Alstyne heard a loud crash in the lobby Saturday morning, they thought it was a stick-up, until they saw a car sitting in the front lobby.
An elderly woman was pulling into a parking spot along Preston Street but when she went to hit the break, she accidentally pressed the gas instead. The car jumped the curb and ran right through the glass window.
The woman wasn't hurt and no one was inside since the main part of the bank was closed.
Bank managers say this was not the first time this has happened. They can recall two other times over the years when other drivers have done the same thing. They are now planning on putting some type of barrier in between the curb and the building.
A crew was able to remove the car from the bank lobby and it will be open for business as usual on Monday.
