8-8-05 - The Colbert Police Department can now purchase their new bullet proof vests thanks to a family honoring the memory of a friend killed in Iraq.
After a weekend fundraiser, the Colbert Police Department remained $2,000 short of their $6,000 goal to raise money for ten new bullet proof vests.
But a Texoma family came through at the last minute on Monday morning donating the remaining $2,000 in memory of Mike Tatar, a local businessman killed earlier this year in Iraq. Tatar was working to help train the new Iraqi police force.
The police department expects to have their new vests by the end of the month.
