Tropical Storm Cindy Hits Coast

7-6-05 - BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) Some street flooding and scattered power outages have been reported along the Gulf Coast from Tropical Storm Cindy. But most people in Cindy's path have taken the storm in stride.

The storm continues to weaken as it moves inland, with top winds now at about 50 miles-an-hour. As of eight a-m Eastern Time, the storm's center was about 30 miles north of Biloxi, Mississippi. It crossed the tip of southeastern Louisiana last night.

Emergency officials in Hancock County, along Mississippi's border with Louisiana, say several dozen roads and streets have been closed because of flooding, most in the Gulfport area. With up to ten inches of rain possible, authorities have cautioned residents in low-lying areas to be ready to evacuate.

Authorities are also already looking down the road at Tropical Storm Dennis, which is currently gaining strength in the Caribbean.
