Amtrak Tightens Security

7-7-05 - Amtrak says security is a little tighter on the nation's passenger rail trains, including the Heartland Flyer. Spokesman Cliff Black says most passengers probably won't realize there's anything out of the ordinary.

Amtrak operates the Heartland Flyer that runs from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth with stops in Gainesville and Ardmore.

But he adds, regular passengers may notice more police officers on trains and in stations.

Black says most of the added security will be in the Amtrak stations -- and "once in a great while" there will be a bomb-sniffing dog on a train. He says that's not common, but it does happen.

He says Amtrak is also being more vigilant along the rail lines it's responsible for, which are primarily in the northeast.
