7-8-05 - As Hurricane Dennis nears the U.S. coastline, volunteers from Texoma are ready to head that way. The special response team from the Texoma Red Cross Chapter departs at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
Margaret Cates and her husband got the call two days ago, but its not their first hurricane relief trip. They were part of a special response team from the Texoma chapter that was created last year after the destruction hurricane Ivan left in Pensacola. And they know all too well what that was like.
Five out of the ten workers going have worked national disasters before. They will be taking over 12,000 pounds of food and water along with them. The team will be there seven to ten days, and the Texoma chapter is already putting together other teams to go once they get back.
