SHERMAN, Tex. -- Sherman Chamber of Commerce officials want to know what you think about a possible new convention center. The chamber has posted a public poll on their website asking residents if they think the area needs a 20,000-square foot meeting space or medium-sized convention center.

Officials say they receive three to four calls every day from residents want to bring big events to the city, but those requests have previously been denied due to a lack of space.

"I think it’s feasible because the community wants it, and our polls show it. We desperately want one, and we desperately need one," Sherman chamber president Traci Carlson says.

Suling, it's only a matter of time before Denison has the eating places & shopping that Sherman does. There is a new shopping center going in on 691 & Preston, a more shopping going in on 75 & 691.

Attn ME......75 & 84 isn't in Sherman, it's in Denison.

I could not have said it better myself Ralph! I do find it amazing that Denison recognized this as a need for the community a couple years ago and Sherman is just now getting around to it (a little too late Sherman). Way to go Denison - keep em coming!

It appears the city of Sherman does not need to be concerned about this issue anymore. The new hotel and convention center coming to Denison should meet the convention related needs of the Sher-Den area for years to come.

I don't think of myself as arrogant just because I live in Sherman- if you don't like it here, US75 and 82 run both ways. Go ahead & spend the extra gas to shop elsewhere- it's your right. Cuts down on the lines here. Geez, Tired of Sherman, get over yourself.........

To Butch - Sherman may be the center of YOUR activities, but NOT mine. I avoid it like the plague. The arrogance of Shermanites is apalling and insulting and I refuse to put my money in the pockets of anyone in Sherman!

Dear Someone Who Knows–you don’t know jack! Brokers purchased the land Town Center is on now & they recruited the primary retail business. The rest just fell in line because it was off 75/82. Traffic counts are “the facts.” Anyone with common sense knows there is more traffic on 75/82 than 75/691. Besides, the “City” didn’t get involved until the brokers came to them. Of course the brokers wanted to get incentives so they didn’t have to take anymore money out of their pockets than they had too. If Sherman had a “real” ED department they would be the ones recruiting business, not the City Manager. Saying the City Manager brought them in please… Sherman’s “puppet managers” can’t do anything without the Council. So you know the same old rumors everyone else has heard (but you took them seriously). Don’t forget the Town Center is made up of a lot of stores from Sherman’s dying mall. What are they going to do with that thing? Wannabe!

To "ME", I hate to burst your bubble, but Sherman and Denison were neck-and-neck for the Town Center. Denison wanted it at 691 where Cigna and the hospital are going now. Sherman won the prize because they offered a better incentive package. The incentive idea that put Sherman over the top came from the city manager that they ran off a few years later. If Denison had landed Town Center, things would be very different now. So much for dumb dogs finding a bone, you should check your facts before posting.

We need to stop all this talk of growth and making things bigger. Things here just need to be IMPROVED. When you have a well maintained city with great roads and parks, the growth will come naturally and at a normal pace. Why are the city and county politicians in such a hurry to expand? Because it looks good on their resume, thats why. We don't need bigger. We just need better.

Sherman can't make this happen. They don't know how to play well together to get this type of project done. The ONLY reason they have the retail and service businesses they have now is because they are on the cross of 75/84. Ask the Chamber and their ED department how many of these retail/service businesses they actually recruited to the area. ZERO! It is not their skill, it is dumb luck. Even the dumbest dog finds a bone now and then. Get a grip Sherman your arrogance stinks up the whole county!

Redneck Woman...You will be choking on those words someday! You should be nicer to your Denison neighbors.

The obvious choice for a convention center site would be next to town center mall. It's where all the good eating places, motels, and Starbucks are located.

there has been a group of leaders in this community for several years TRYING to get a convention center built at Loy Park. It is a location that meets all the criteria and leaders in sherman have always been the ones disagreeing b/c it wasn't in THEIR town - small minded attitude holding up the progress of our town. This could have been done YEARS ago

There are too many aandoned buildings in Sherman. How about updating some of them? Or knock them down , before building more. If we're not careful, we'll look like Denison. I'm afraid they're gonna build a new one, then leave the old eyesores standing.

YES SHERMAN NEEDS A CONVENTION CENTER! SHERMAN IS THE CENTER OF ALL ACTIVITIES IN GRAYSON COUNTY (PROBABLY FANNIN COUNTY TOO!) WAIT! I GOT IT! THE PERFECT PLACE FOR THE CONVENTION CENTER WOULD BE THE OLD SHER-DEN MALL LOCATION! THE AREA THERE ON TEXOMA PARKWAY WOULD BE CLEANED UP & SHERMAN WOULD HAVE A NEW CONVENTION CENTER!
