09-22-05 - Hotels across the state of Texas are filling up fast as evacuees from the coast area make their way north in preparation for Hurricane Rita. Almost every hotel, stretching from Dallas to Oklahoma, is booked solid.
Tonya Shields, a worker at Sherman's Hampton Inn, said they are already booked through the weekend, and the amount of calls on Wednesday was far higher than usual. But most had to be turned away since they were packed with reservations.
Some hotels still have several Louisiana evacuees from Hurricane Katrina.
A La Quinta Inn spokesperson said that every La Quinta room in the state of Texas is booked through the weekend.
Red Cross is working with local hotels to make sure everyone has shelter. Tomorrow, 75 new evacuees are expected to arrive at the Whitewright shelter.
