7-31-05 - An inmate who escaped from the Mcleod Correctional Center in Atoka is back behind bars. Prison officials say 37-year-old Charles Snail escaped overnight, but K-9 dogs tracked him down around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
According to the Department of Corrections website, Snail escaped from the same facility in Atoka back in 1993. He has an extensive criminal history, including auto theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
So far, officials do not know how Snail escaped, but they spent the morning searching for him by ground and by air. He told officials he walked away from the minimum security prison because he feared for his life.
