Tishomingo Sewage Station Repaired

8-2-05 - City officials in Tishomingo say a sewage station that dumped two million gallons of raw sewage into a creek last month has been fixed, but environmental workers still are worried about a wastewater system with chronic problems.

Investigators with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the state Department of Environmental Quality are looking into the situation. One engineering firm has predicted repairs to the facility could cost up to $2.5 million.

According to a report from the state Department of Environmental Quality, a city lift station dumped raw sewage into Pennington Creek for four days in early July. The report says city officials initially thought a July 4th thunderstorm caused the damage but later discovered the leak began two days earlier.
