Governor Has Concerns Over Suspending Fuel Tax

10-7-05 - Governor Henry says he has big concerns a proposal to suspend the state fuel tax for three months.

Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan introduced the plan to temporarily drop the 17 cent per gallon state tax on gas because of skyrocketing gas prices.

But Henry said Thursday in McAlester that he's concerned about whether the tax cut would be passed on to consumers. The governor says Georgia suspended its tax on gas but some retailers didn't pass along the savings to customers.

The governor was in McAlester for a groundbreaking ceremony for an addition at Pliant Corporation.
