County Investigates Jail Escape

8-20-05 - A four hour manhunt for two dangerous escapees from the Johnston County jail is over. Demetrius Taylor and Jerry McKinney were taken into custody near Sulphur after more than four hours on the run.

Taylor is serving a 25 year prison sentence for second degree murder. McKinney is charged with first degree murder.

The men were last seen in the jail during a 4:00 p.m. bed check. By 5:00 p.m., they were gone. Authorities say the inmates carjacked a woman and stole her car in Tishomingo. The woman was not harmed. The suspects tried to cash a stolen check in Reagan, Oklahoma before authorities caught up with them just after 9:00 p.m. and started a pursuit just west of Sulphur.

Highway Patrol Troopers took the men into custody without incident.

Authorities are still trying to figure out how they escaped from the jail.
