MURRAY COUNTY, Okla. -- A Murray County couple is outraged after thick, black oil oozes out of a tank overnight and into a woman's catfish pond. They say it is a case of environmental irresponsibility.

When Pebbles Minyon woke up Monday morning, she never expected to see crude oil flowing down her driveway and into her pond.

Ms. Minyon saw the oil when she looked out her window Monday morning. She and her husband have been involved in a legal battle for years with Stone River Energy, the company who owns the oil tanks on her land. Stone River has the mineral rights, and the Minyans say that company has been negligent in maintaining their equipment.

We found court papers dating back to 2006. The Minyans say this is just the latest incident involving leaks and discharges on their land ranging from crude oil to salt water.

"I feel like I have no rights as a landowner. I mean we've turned in complaints, we've called the corporation commission, we have this ongoing suit, and you know, nothing… we can't get anything done."

"I just want my land to be cleaned up, and I want the leaks to be stopped," Ms. Minyan said.

The noxious fumes of petroleum could be detected from the road.

Representatives from the oil company say they have no idea how that spill could have happened but said that shoddy equipment was not a factor.

Just so everyone knows Stone River has not done what they agreed to do and they have not settled any deal. Maybe they just wanted to get channel 12 news out of the picture and make themselves look like good ol boys. Maybe channel 12 news needs to call the Minyen's for an update on this story. Channel 9 news interviewed a woman near Allen OK that is also having her land abused by an oil company. Maybe if enough citizens and land owners step up and talk about all the abuse SOMETHING MIGHT HAPPEN to correct the so called rules of the OK Corp Commission. Drive by the Minyen land and look how the OK Corp Commission allowed them to pile the oily dirt on the fence row to run off on the Minyen land when it rains. Thought there were rules that oil spills had to be hauled off and disposed of properly. Why should one company have to pay but Stone River gets by with half doing a job????? Come on channel 12 get involved and help land owners. Channel 12 is the only reason is got cleaned up.

Most people are clueless whats happening around areas like Davis, Ratliff City, Fox, Healdton, etc.. A lot of wells (pump jacks) are converted into injection wells or disposal wells, the produced water (salt water) that comes from all the producing wells has to go somewhere. Most oil wells produce a lot of salt water, salt water will kill trees, fish, whatever, plus there are other toxic material also. The salt water and other material is injected back into the formation at high pressure, and some of the old well have bad casing or the formation has blown out and the salt water is going who knows where. Its only a matter of time before most of the drinking water will become toxic, it might be a good idea to get your water tested a few times a year. An oil spill is easy to clean up, easy to see, there are products that can be put on oil to break it down. The radio said today on cnbc that oil will be at $200 - $230 a barrel in four years, how bad will it be then. I love my truck and oil

And for all you others u need too read just a tad bit more. LOL people are getting goofy now days. It all comes down to they need to clean up their own mess end of story. Plus all the SMART people lol yeah right dont know what they are talking about Bush has stock stock means money higher prices more stock in return u have more money. About lb comment, really got the wrong story. The trench is from Stone River Energy drainage problem they refuse to fix and salt water spilling and ruining the soil, etc. Stone River Energy failed to have proper berms around their operations that allowed a major drainage problem! Go out to the place and look for yourself. Look up Stone River Energy and see how many lawsuits they have started and tried to sue so many people, you'll find Stone River Energy is big into suing people to get something for nothing. Maybe they can't afford to fix their problems and they create a lawsuit to fix up their oil company problems. Stone River must not have any money or they wouldn't nickle and dime everything. Stone River should have pride and take care of the location. If Stone River can't afford to operate then maybe they should go to work for a junk yard, etc. The Minyen's are great neighbors and wonderful people. Apparently these people writing in are friends of Stone River.

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 22, 2008 at 05:42 PM
Apparently Shelly has been misinformed on this story, Pebbles has never gotten anything for nothing and has had to pay her own way in life. When Shelly says they aren't the kind of people (who is they?) The Minyen's are both hard workers. It is my understanding that Stone River Energy started this problem and has continued to allow pollution and ignore the much needed maintenance and repairs of their operation on the Minyen's land. The Minyen's paid a big price for that 20 acres and did not buy it for cheap. The Minyen's have worked for over 3 years improving the land and spent money they worked for. The Minyen's rights have been violated and they have been treated terrible. Stone River Energy should be out of business and be fined for the way they have operated and polluted the Minyen's land. The Oklahoma Corporation Commission should enforce the rules. How would Shelly know how much money the Minyen's are getting and if it would be enough to live high on the hog? Jealous?

In reference to Redneck Bubba: Most Land property in today's market is sold/bought without mineral rights (surface only.) We own over 3,000 acres of which we own very little mineral rights. Before calling people "stupid," try buying some land with mineral rights! Surface owners have certain rights, including the right to not have the surface destroyed by the mineral owner/operator. I have seen this location. it is very sub standard.

Why was the footage on a cell phone? Did they forget the big boy camera? Sometimes KXII is so unprofessional. We deserve better...

Posted by: concerned citizen Location: oklahoma on Apr 22, 2008 at 01:18 PM
Apparently Trish that posted a message has NO knowledge of this story, because the building was built outside the allowable footage more than 100 foot! The information Trish posted is all false information and she sounds like someone has been feeding her a line of bull. She should get a life and know what she is talking about before sending false comments. Trish should go out to the location and measure the distance from the building and look up the Oklahoma Corporation Commission rules before she runs her mouth with comments. Stone River Energy knew where the building was being built and watched it being built and the Minyen's called as a good neighbor and had it ok'd with Stone River prior to starting construction! Trish sounds like she is an employee or relative of Stone River Energy that is grasping at straws to try to distract people from the real FACTS. Trish maybe people will stop talking if the oil company did things the RIGHT WAY!

Posted by: shelly Location: sulphur on Apr 22, 2008 at 11:42 AM
sound like Pebbles done it again, and got her some money. she will be living high oon the hog for a while. they ain't the kind of people some think they are. out to get something and not have to; ;pay for it

Holly moelly! It is amazing that some people don't actually harm themselves in the course of a day. Maybe some should actually read what they typed before they hit the submit button. If not astounding, at least highly amusing.

Posted by: lb Location: sulphur on Apr 22, 2008 at 11:34 AM
after watching the video on the news, how did the oil just take a turn from the driveway and go into the pond? That just didn't look right unless a trench may have been dug. if this is the case then the people throwing the hissy needs to be in jail. wasn't this the same people that said oil blew all over their house last year and wanted the oil company to pay for it. sound like they want something for nothing and this is the only way they know how to get it by sueing.

Posted by: HERE Location: GONE on Apr 22, 2008 at 11:20 AM
WELL they did say it was tampered with so wonder if they tampered just to sue

Posted by: trish Location: oklahoma on Apr 22, 2008 at 10:42 AM
If you only knew these people you would't be co quick to blame the oil company. They built the house no more than 100 feet away from these oil tanks to start with. They like money, when she sued a school and didn't get anything then it all started with the oil companies. Pebbles get a life and maybe a job that will pay your bills that way you can earn money the right way and people will stop talking.

Did I understand that Stone River accused the Minyens of vandalism?? That's outragous.. Is it proper (legally) to make an accusation like that in a formal public statement?

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 22, 2008 at 10:15 AM
Leith, you are an idiot. Jaycee, the EPA is busy running people off of PUBLIC land to save the spotted (insert any animal/plant/rock formation).

Posted by: Jaycee Location: Mill Creek on Apr 22, 2008 at 09:27 AM
If this has been going on for for years, what responsibility/liability does Oklahoma Corporation Commission have for not doing their job during this time? It's not like they did not know about it until yesterday. Should there be some investigations at OCC??? I thought their job was to protect Oklhaoma against things of this sort. Where is EPA??

Posted by: Mork Location: Ork on Apr 22, 2008 at 09:09 AM
I agree with Opinionated 100%. Hey Leith, your a comedian aren't you! LOL.

Posted by: bubba redneck Location: sherman on Apr 22, 2008 at 07:57 AM
first off i don't blame them for being mad i would be outraged to,,but...i'm just wondering if someone wasn't so greedy and sold the mineral rights you wouldn't have this problem...and if you knew when you bought the land it didn't come with the minerial rights then your just plain stupid..

Posted by: Opinionated Location: Ardmore on Apr 22, 2008 at 05:16 AM
How some of you are even able to get on here and leave a post is beyond me. It is obvious that Leith Logan has less than a 3rd grade education or he would know that the government, president Bush, doesn't raise or lower gas prices. That is the oil companies that do that. And if you would pull your head out of an unknown dark region, you would have read that OPEC has stated they plan on keeping the price of crude oil at it's highest levels. If this war were actually about oil, then we would be able to lowere the price. And what has the price of gas prices and president Bush have to do with this oil company's neglect? It doesn't have anything to do with it. To Ms. Minyon, they may have the mineral rights, but you own the land. Charge them a good hefty fee to get to it. And someone does need to make them clean that mess up. They need to be held accountable.

i know u r not bitter about the oil n your driveway.ms.minyan u should know the E.P.A DONT CARE!!! its not flowing down there driveway.maybe kxii can use there pull.what about it kxii

Posted by: Anonymous on Apr 21, 2008 at 05:53 PM
Wow, I'd be outraged, too!

Posted by: Leith Logan Location: Denison on Apr 21, 2008 at 05:24 PM
Ok for one they need to be put in jail if this has happened before or something similar. Ms. Minyon if you read this i agree with you completely. Thats crap you spend you time and money and it goes down the drain. I mean oil obviously is a very very very profitable item look at bush. Something happens bush raise gas prices. Well not bush but the oil commission. Its all price gouging. I think they should have to pay for everything down too a little pebble that the oil oozed over. They should restock the pond and pay all ur court costs. They say Oh its not our equipment that is at fault yeah ok its prob old than i am. Plus if Minyon family has well out there then they may have un clean drinking water. This is a typical move for any city around here they procrastinate. The messed up thing is that they are hurting the environment. If their is anything i could help with i would. I agree with u 110 %.
