Gainesville Officer on Leave After Shooting

10-17-05 - A Gainesville Police Officer is on administrative leave after a deadly shooting involving a suspect this weekend.

It all began with a 911 call of a fight in progress around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.

When officer Gary Brown arrived, he found two men fighting and one holding a five pound brick. The two men were standing inside a fence located outside a mobile home on Scott Street.

Police say Felix Dehoyos, 26, was trying to hit the other man with the brick. Officer Brown drew his weapon and told Dehoyos to drop the brick.

According to police, Dehoyos came after the officer, and Brown fired one shot hitting Dehoyos in the chest.

Dehoyos was pronounced dead on the scene, and Officer Brown has been put on administrative leave during the investigation.

The Texas Rangers have also been called in to investigate.

Officer Brown has been with the Gainesville Police Department for two years.
