HUGO, Okla. -- The man accused of shooting and killing one of his stepdaughters and injuring another is still in the Choctaw County Jail Friday night, but charges have not yet been filed.

Coy Lee Tate, 86, of Hugo was arrested Thursday after authorities found 63-year-old Jackie Maye Endemano dead from a gunshot wound to the head in Tate’s home on Bearden Springs Road.

Her sister, 57-year-old Debra McKenzie, was shot in the shoulder and was flown to OU Medical Center where she is recovering.

There are developments in the story. (http://www.whittierdailynews.com/ci_9176485). Even the assistant DA doesn't believe that Jackie was doing anything wrong and that her stepfather has an anger problem. It's obvious that the stepfather was acting irrationally. He could have called the police or locked them out or talked with them. Instead he shot one daughter in the shoulder and one in the head. How is that ever ok? The daughters did not have guns, there was no call for the use of self-defense in the form of deadly force. I've known Jackie Endemano since my junior high years, was a student of her husband, and a friend of her son. It's terrible that the family has to deal with these rumors after her tragic and sudden death, instead of looking to the great life that she led.

it wouldnt matter if he was 86. he shot his STEPDAUGHTERS.. since when does that count as "defending himself or his family"? he just shot his family... there is no way in hell Jackie and Debra were abusing Coy. they are God loving women. age doesnt matter when people commit murders. how could your heart break for a elderly man when he just killed one of the most caring woman on the face of the planet? and attempted to kill another? chances are, his wife wouldnt want to be near Coy. the one thing that allows me to sleep at night is the fact that Jackie is in Heaven with the Lord.

Are you people kidding me... since when is being old an excuse to commit murder? Even if they wanted to take her back to CA w/ them, she was still their mother, they probably just wanted the best for her, just like all of you want the best for your mothers. How can some of you justify cold blooded murder? My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of these two women.

I hope he gets house arrest AND his wife back.Home health is available with daily visits to help with light housekeeping, cooking and her personal care. An RN will come in at least twice a week, more if needed. The man is 86, so you think his mind is as clear as 20 years ago. This is a tragedy and no one doubts these were christian women. This was not handled correctly. I lost my dad at 90 a coulpe of years ago. If I had tried to take my mother (his life) and move her across the country and leave him behind I'm not sure what he would have done. This is a sad tragedy, no one will win. My heart breaks for this elderly man.

the women were in the wrong,he was in the right.

Mrs. Endemano was a shining light to all around her. Her joy and unconditional love wasnt just for believers, but for those searching and seeking friendship as well. Like Christ, she looked for beauty in the broken. I refuse to speculate on the inner happenings of this tragity because I dont want to spread false ideas. However, I know from the bottom of my heart she did her best to treat the situation with tenderness and a calm mind. I think it best to have patience and wait for more statements from the sister as she is comfortable sharing them with the public. We must all take caution with our words and with our speculations. Reguardless of your personal views of the situation, many people are in mourning and we, as fellow human beings, should have the respect to let them greve and heal in peace. Jackie was a beautiful friend, mother, wife and daughter of Christ. As tragic as this was, we can find peace in knowing she is in the presents of the most high God.

Maybe everyone spouting condemnation should just wait until the investigation is over and the fact are revealed. We may all be suprized.

What would you do if someone wanted to take your wife/husband? I quess you think it would be ok as long as that person is a wonderful christian women. This is Southeastern Oklahoma not California! Just about everyone has a weapon in their home. I just hope that they dont let his wife go home with the women who is still alive! After all they are the only witness to the whole thing. And their is no telling what they will try to convence his wife to say. Coy needs to hold his head up high! There is nothing wrong with defending your family! People who are so wonderful usually dont hang out with such rude people. But, some of you who are so called friends sure make awful comments.

It would be good to hear an update on this story and perhaps put some of the questions to rest. The speculation in the comment section seems to be getting a little out of control, or are there those who know more but not coming forward. Anyone who can make the statement that he was "lying in wait" either had to be there or knows this man and that he had a plan.

Posted by: Anonymous on May 5, 2008 at 07:20 PM
motive was that the two daughters came to check on their mother as they thought she was not properly being taken care of. They were not happy with what they saw and wanted to bring their mother to a nursing home. The stepfather did not want that to happen so he got angry and shot them

Posted by: Anonymous on May 5, 2008 at 06:51 PM
In a nutshell, no. The story so far seems to indicate the daughters had come to visit their mother whom had been ill and ask her to come back with them to California. After that it becomes sketchy as there are allegations ranging from the man ambushing them and killing them, to the women holding the man hostage in his own home and physically abusing him until he snapped. This happens in a timeline from the moment they show up to a few days depending on who you talk to. Either way if you don't tow one side's particular story or heap flowery language onto someone, you're an insensitive mouthpiece of the devil and some internet toughguy is gonna come rough you up. Also there seems to be little interest in due process or rule of law or even Oklahoma law with regard to the use of lethal force in self defense. Regardless, its a tragedy on all sides and whoever wins still loses. (Flamesuit on)

they were shot becaused they forced their way into his house against his wishes and were pushing him around and threatening him.

Does anyone know why teh man shot these two ladies? What motive?

Posted by: Anonymous on May 5, 2008 at 10:29 AM
"they messed with the wrong person, they got what they deserved." wow, the internet trolls even like to stir things up when an actual human being has been senselessly murdered.

If you don't want to be called an idiot, don't say idiotic things. Being called an idiot for saying what you said makes a lot more sense than suggesting it is Ok to shoot someone because they were "mean" to you.

Our family have known Jackie Endemano, and her husband Steve for many years. We do not understand, but we are thankful we know she is with the Lord, as she knew Him as per personal Savior. How tragic for the stepfather to have to live the rest of his life, knowing that he took someone else's life. Our prayers are with Steve and family.

he was lying in wait - it is premeditated murder, no way around it. The girls didn't even know what was coming and got shot as they walked in the door to visit their ailing mother.

hey I'm only 13 so don't call me an idiot.IT was only a comment,I'M sorry.

In the ten years I've known Jackie Endemano, she never had an unkind word for anyone. No one was kinder, or nicer than this beautiful lady. This is a real tragedy. She was a blessing to all who had the priviledge of knowing her. No one is his right mind would harm one such as her. I loved her and will miss her greatly.

They were probably mean to him?? That gives someone a reason to shoot someone in the head? Someone should shoot you in the head!

Posted by: Carol Location: California on May 3, 2008 at 11:33 AM
Jackie Endemano worked at the high school that my son attended for 4 years. She was a godly woman, not in words only, but in deeds. She was kind, helpful, thoughtful -a dear, sweet woman who touched everyone who had the privilege to know her.
