Children Hit at Bus Stop - Driver Arrested

9-29-05 - A hit and run accident near a school bus in Honey Grove, Texas has left three children hospitalized. It happened just after 7:45 a.m. Thursday at Highway 56 and 34.

7-year-old Logan Langley, his 6-year-old sister Sausha Langley, and their 5-year-old cousin Taylor Moody were crossing the street in front of their home when a westbound car on Highway 56 didn't stop.

As the three students stepped out into the street to board the bus, the bus driver tried to wave them back, but the car hit all three.

The elderly driver, 73-year-old John Shipman who had just dropped off his own grandchild at the elementary school, fled the scene but came back ten minutes later. Shipman was in jail on Thursday accused of injury to a child and leaving the scene of a crime.

Shipman has lived in Honey Grove most of his life, and residents interviewed by KXII did not have anything bad to say about the 73-year-old.

The injured children were taken by helicopter to Childrens’ Medical Center in Dallas. The two boys are in serious but stable condition and Sausha is in good condition.
