SHERMAN, Tex. -- Fourth graders in Sherman got the chance to leave the classroom Friday morning and enjoy some fun in the sun in the 19th Annual Junior Bearcat Games.

Over 600 fourth graders from across the city gathered at Bearcat Stadium to participate in all sorts of events and races, including the wooden egg-in-spoon relay and the rubber chicken-hula hoop tunnel relay.

Organizers say it’s a good way for the kids to learn about good sportsmanship and how to work together as a team.

"We just come out here and have races," Fairview Elementary physical education instructor Mike Gillum says.

All six Sherman elementary schools participated, including St. Mary's Catholic School and Texoma Christian School.
