AUSTIN, Tex. -- Grayson County Judge Drue Bynum met with Governor Rick Perry in Austin earlier this week to discuss the possibility of bringing MD Helicopters to the area, and he says the meeting couldn't have gone smoother. Daniel Gotera reports.

It’s not everyday someone can set up a meeting with the governor of Texas, much less do it in person. The two men met each other on a southwest airlines flight out of Austin a couple of weeks ago, and the rest was history.

The two men met with MD Helicopters chairwoman Lynn Tilton for one hour on Wednesday night in the governor’s office in a meeting Judge Bynum says was very productive.

Bynum says Governor Perry wanted to make sure Ms. Tilton knew about the incentive package presented to her company by the county, and that Texas ranks as one of the best states in the country when it comes to attracting businesses and helping them succeed.

Grayson County remains one of the finalists for the company’s new home. While county officials have been working hard to get them to the North Texas Regional Airport, the exposure they have received because of their efforts is just as important as getting MD Helicopters to Grayson County.

"They're taking notice of us here in Grayson County, and I think that’s a great thing, and I think we are able to package that and get it out to the folks in the aviation world and let them know that we have something up here that’s worth looking at," Bynum said.

After the meeting, Judge Bynum says Ms. Tilton told him that she was very impressed by what the governor had to say, and that a decision should come within the next couple of weeks.
