ADA, Okla. -- There will soon be more money available to increase fire safety in Pontotoc County when seconds count.
State senator Susan Paddic was in her hometown to announce an increase of funding in the amount of $300,000 for the Fire Training Center in Pontotoc County.
The training center will allow fire fighters to learn life-saving techniques right at home, instead of having to travel for those specialized classes.
Classrooms and equipment will be added for all fire fighters in the region to use over the next few months.
The wildfires two years ago made state officials aware that volunteers need the same quality training as those firefighters who are paid.
The money is coming from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture.
