You’ve heard it before. “Click it or ticket.” That’s what officials across Texoma have been warning the public about for the last year. A newly-formed Southeastern Oklahoma Traffic Safety Coalition met Thursday morning to discuss new ways to make sure the public is safe on the roads.
In 2006, 86 people were killed on southeastern Oklahoma roads. Authorities say 47 of those lives could have been saved.
"When people don't wear their seatbelt, they're like a human projectile inside a car in a car crash," Captain Ronnie Hampton of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says.
The coalition is made up of law enforcement across nine counties. They were able to generate new ideas on Thursday for general traffic safety, as well as seatbelt use.
