VAN ALSTYNE, Tex. -- Some teachers in Van Alstyne are moonlighting at McDonald's.

The staff from Van Alstyne Elementary held their annual "McStaff Night" Thursday.

Once a month, McDonald's donates 15% of their proceeds to the school, but only one night a year do principals wait tables, and kindergarten teachers serve the drive-thru.

Fifteen percent of the money raised from their four hour shift goes to the PTA, and Principal Terry Billups says they usually make pretty good money.

"This is our "McStaff Night". We do McDonald's night every month but this is the night the staff comes out and works at McDonald's. We just have a blast," Billups said.

Each month, they raise $300 to $500 dollars.

JMO - I never made any remark in regard to the wonderful things these teachers are doing to forward the education of the stundents they teach. I just found it humorous that someone would take a story about such a kind act and start bashing them for supporting gay people - off topic - so when given the oportunity (spell check) I slam, it's better than sniffing burlap. BTW - you are talking about mork - isn't this fun? LOL - Have a good day :)

VA Teacher - Don't worry you are very much appreciated. Do not pay attention to the uneducated morons on this site who find a way to criticize each and every story that finds it's way on here. You could save the lives of every kid in your school and some idiot would find something in it to criticize. We won't even talk about Mork. Everyone knows just to ignore his nonsensical ramblings.

(Yawn.....) Anybody want a cat? I think they got some extra's in Bonham.

I'm not big on supporting the pink-triangle crowd either, but if you close-minded fools are going to criticize those VA teachers helping their kids by doing what they're doing, and the local Mickey D's for assisting, you need to check yourselves. I'm probably conservative enough to make all of you here look like New Deal Democrats, but I'm also open-minded enough to help kids and education. And the funny thing- someone mentionewd WalMart supports the gay lifestyle. I was told by a gay person in Maine that he wouldn't shop at WalMart until they paid so-called "living wages" to the employees. Some folks just can't win. Let the good Lord judge people by how they live- personally, I can stand to muunch on a QuarterPounder to help VA's kids. Now watch the PETA people and boiled-yam crowd sound off about this.....lol......kudos to Van Alstyne and the local Mickey D.

I think personally this is one time you should support the teachers and the students. It is really hard to come up with all the needed $$$ for our students.

Mork, boycotting a business that supports things you do not believe in is sound practice, you hit the business where it hurts...the money...nice to see your snide little judgement on someone that express any opinion outside of your own. tool!

I'm sure all these businesses have been financially affected by your personal boycott! for me, who cares? LOL! Oh my, some homophobic that has a gender problem.

I am a dedicated teacher at VA and I resent being criticized for using my personal time to do something to help provide extra resources so that I can teach children of people who have nothing better to do than criticize me. I spend a large amount of personal funds to provide extra materials for my classroom. This is just one way to help provide those extras without spending money out of my own pocket. As for the issues brought up in the comments on this site, I have chosen to let God do any judging that needs to be done - I am not qualified to do that. You are entitled to your opinion and beliefs but don't criticize me for doing all I can to help the children I teach. How dare you.

To Concerned: So does Wal Mart and Ford openly support the Gay/Lesbian lifestyle. Are you boycotting them too.

Posted by: me Location: oklahoma on May 16, 2008 at 11:37 AM
dear concerned do you also boycott Ford motors, they seem to have the same agenda.

Since McDonald's has decided to openly support the Gay/Lesbian lifestyle through financial donations, etc., I gladly signed the AFA boycott. Perhaps these school officials and teachers need to reconsider the businesses that they are in association with and the message being sent. I know it is not a popularly held belief going against homosexuality, but it's my own personal obligation to refuse to support McDonald's in any form or fashion.
