ARDMORE, Okla. -- If you live in Ardmore, and you take medications, there’s a new way to get rid of the medicines you don't need.

Residents can drop off expired or unneeded prescription drugs Saturday only at the Ardmore Police Department from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The drugs will be properly packed and then taken to the OSBI Headquarters in Oklahoma City, where they will be incinerated.

"It just seems to be the prudent thing to do, and as people are becoming more aware of the environment and wanting to be ‘green,’ they are looking at safer ways to get rid of such things as medications," Norma Lynne Paschal of the Ardmore Beautification Council says.

If you are home bound and can't make it to the event, you can call 580-223-2285 and the Southern Oklahoma Ambulance Service will drop by your home to collect those medicines.

If you flush them down the toilet it does hurt somethimg, it's called our water system. It's been on the news! And this is not a way for our local police to get some good drugs for free. What has happened to doing a good thing and this is a good thing!

You can flush them down the toilet without hurting anything, and save yourself a trip to town.
