TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Average customers of Public Service Company of Oklahoma would see a monthly rate increase of about $17 under a proposal from the electric utility.

The company is asking the Oklahoma Corporation Commission for the increase to cover the rising cost of fuel used to produce electricity.
In filings Thursday, the company asked for a 40% increase in what it charges for fuel. The company says it has seen a significant increase in its cost of fuel - especially natural gas.

The company is also giving notice of its plans to ask the Corporation Commission to raise its base rate.

The company says the amount of that base rate increase hasn't been determined but the money is needed because of improvements made to the utility's transmission, distribution and other facilities.

This is insane! I mean most people are struggling hard enough just to survive! We have a hard enough time just food on the table and gas in the car for work! I just recieved our electric bill this month and it's almost $140.00 for a little 700sq ft. one bedroom apartment! I hate to see what it will be by the end of summer.

Great. You gotta use gas to get to work and to pay your bills and you gotta use electricity for your home, businesses, etc. America is stuck between a rock and a hard place with no means to an end or way out. Everything is going up except the working peoples wages. There are hardly any jobs left so people can't go out and get a second job, I mean, PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD TO LIVE!!!!!!!! This isn't right. Pretty soon, schools will not be able to send out buses to educate the children.

This is insane, why can't they absorb fuel costs like all of us workers? My profit margin no longer exists...I pay my bills, period and even now I have to stretch it as far as I can. Why are corporations and the government allowing this? Minimum wage earners, will have to quit and go on welfare, they won't be able to go to work. Elderly couldn't afford utilities last year; when they can't turn on the a/c and become ill, will anyone notice then? Everything is going up except wages. Before too long there will no longer be a middle class, just the wealthy and those on welfare....I shudder to think of where this Fine Nation is headed...
