SHERMAN, TX - Its official. The city of Sherman will be home to a new athletic park and sooner than city leaders had planned!

City Council members voted on the master plan back in April. Now they've signed an agreement with a Dallas company to start planning the park.

'Center Street Park' will include two first class athletic fields, a pavilion and jogging and walking trails.

Construction was set to begin at the end of 2009, but now officials in charge hope to have the park finished by 2009.

The city is currently taking construction bids and hopes to start building the park later this year.

All I saw was an announcement for two athletic fields- didn't mention soccer. And if they are soccer fields, so what? Plenty of folks (white, Hispanic, etc) play soccer- get over it.

We need another pool. Fairview is too crowded! Stick a pool out there too.

You know, you two are total jerks. There are several "tax paying" hispanics in Sherman, several of whom are doctors, lawyers, and educators. There are approximately 148,231 white people living in Grayson county, of which 14,823 are living below the poverty level. There are 12,970 hispanics, of which 3,242 are living below poverty. Assuming, and this is a big assumption since there are many wealthy people who don't pay any taxes, that all of these below poverty level are unable to pay taxes, that means that there are far more whites than hispanics that are not paying their taxes in Sherman. Then there is your redneck kneejerk reaction that only hispanics play soccer. Must be a pity to live your lives with such utterly closed minds.

Hey Jim you know that the city could care less about Texoma soccer! But we have to make sure the non-taxpaying people are taken care of!

The Center street project is a joke! Two soccer fields that will probably be used by the hispanic community more than anyone else and most of them don't pay tax's. The Texoma Soccer Association has been playing soccer for years at Fairview park in Sherman. The condition of the fields are like a cow pasture. Everyone should check out the sports complexs in other towns. McKinney, Denton and even Durant knows what a community really needs. There is plenty of city owned property not being used that a full size complex could be built. With a complex, tournaments could be played that would bring alot of money to the Sherman area. The money would be spent on food, hotels, and gas. If Sherman wants to be like other communities they should explore the possibility of a larger complex.
