DENISON, TX -- People from across Texoma met to raise money for the new ‘Reba Ranch House,’ having a good time for a good cause. The event was titled, ‘Star Spangled Night at the Park.’
"It is a home away from home for people who need a place to stay," says Henry Ringler, chairman of the Texoma Health Foundation.
Ringler says they are lucky to have a place to help families when they have to visit the hospital, a luxury patients didn’t have twenty years ago. Thanks to the efforts of one woman, it is now a reality for generations to come.
"People that were coming to this area had no place to stay for the families so the Reba Ranch House was built and money was raised for it obviously with the hard work of Reba McEntire and her family," Ringler says.
Now in its 21st year, the Reba auction has raised millions of dollars to help sustain the current facility. Now, the money raised will go to the new house at the corner of US 75 and FM 691.
"We immediately started thinking how we can make our ranch house convenient for the patients of the new medical center as well," says Carol Fines, an event organizer.
Those who attended had the chance to bid on all sorts of items from football games, to autographed memorabilia., and organizers say most of it was originally made possible thanks to the help of one special lady.
The Texoma Medical Center will be a $137 million facility. It is to be eight stories tall with 252 beds and will be approximately 370,000 square feet, about 130,000 more than the current facility.
The groundbreaking is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday June 5th.
