10-28-05 - The city of Sherman received statewide recognition on Thursday for a successful program that's making a difference in the lives of young people. The city was awarded for the hard work of both the police and fire departments on their public youth safety academy.
Sherman police officers, firefighters and city officials were in Grapevine to accept the 2005 City Spirit Award from the Texas Municipal League - one of ten communities in the state of Texas to receive the honor.
The award recognizes Sherman for its public safety youth academy - an after-school program designed to make positive connections with young people and give them an inside look into the duties of public safety officers.
Sherman was up against hundreds of other cities all over Texas with populations above 25,000.
The Texas Municipal League is a voluntary association of over 1,000 cities.
