Death Row Inmate Captured

11-6-05 - HOUSTON (AP) - The U-S Marshals service said tonight they have captured escaped convicted killer Charles Victor Thompson.

Marianne Matus with the U-S Marshals Service said Thompson was
in custody after being captured in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Matus did not provide any additional details.

Authorities had been searching for Johnson since he fled the Harris County Jail late Thursday, using a smuggled set of clothes and a fake identification badge to get past the guards.

Thompson was convicted in 1999 for the shooting deaths a year earlier of his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

Thirty-nine-year-old Dennise Hayslip was from Tomball and 30-year-old Darren Keith Cain was from nearby Spring.

Harris County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lieutenant John Martin said Friday that Thompson's escape resulted from "multiple errors" by jail personnel.

Matus had said earlier Sunday that authorities had received valuable tips about Thompson's possible whereabouts.

The U-S Marshals Service had offered a 10-thousand dollar reward for Thompson's capture and designated him a federal fugitive in order to use its resources to find him.

Thompson was sentenced to death on October 28th and was being
held in the county jail until he could be transferred to a prison in Livingston.
