Cornerstone Closes It's Doors Early

11-14-05 - KXII told you it was coming, but no one expected it to happen this fast.

Cornerstone Products in Durant officially stopped production over the weekend.

As KXII reported last week, the company told employees they would need to find new jobs before January, but instead of staying open until the end of the year, the plant closed its doors Sunday.

The company had been downsizing over the year, dropping from 400 employees to 150.

Cornerstone had been a major employer in Durant for more than 20 years manufacturing trash cans and plastic storage containers.

Plant officials said higher energy costs forced the closure.
