11-21-05 - Police in Tacoma, Washington, say a man has been arrested several hours after apparently walking inside a busy shopping mall where he took three hostages.
A police spokesman says no shots were fired when the man was taken into custody shortly before 4 p-m Pacific time by SWAT team members. The hostages were released safely. Police say a child had been released earlier.
The incident began when a gunman opened fire inside the Tacoma Mall.
Witnesses described hearing a noise and then seeing a man walking backward through the mall, shooting.
At least six people were injured, one critically, as shoppers and store clerks scrambled for cover.
The suspect is described as a young man. Police have no other details about him or his possible motives.
Police are interviewing the victims and hostages.
