Teen Driver Hurt in Fiery Wreck

11-21-05 – A 17-year-old driver was badly injured in a wreck Sunday evening. It happened on Cade Highway – east of Bennington, Oklahoma around 6:00 p.m.

According to Highway Patrol Troopers, the teen was driving north when he clipped a mailbox and overcorrected. His car rolled one and half times.

The teen hit a fence and a utility pole, which sparked a small fire. First responders pulled the teen from the vehicle and put out the flames.

Troopers say the young man was not wearing a seatbelt. He was flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas with head injuries and is listed in serious, but stable condition.

Hundreds of homes in the area lost power when the utility pole was damaged. Crews say the power should be restored by Sunday night.

The driver’s name has not been released.
