WASHINGTON D.C. -- Nearly 200 fallen officers were honored Thursday at our nation's capitol during the 33rd Annual National Peace Officers' Memorial Service, including two men from Texoma.
Vice President Biden addressed the crowd at Thursday's memorial service in front of the capitol, thanked the families and friends of fallen officers for their service, and acknowledged their loss.
The memorial was immediately followed by a wreath laying ceremony.
Among the officers honored Thursday, former Gainesville Police Chief Stephen Fleming, who died in an accident at the station and Grayson County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Key, who was killed by a drunk driver.
Key's wife April and friend Lieutenant Rickey Wheeler attended the ceremony Thursday.
