11-25-05 - State Representative Paul Roan of Tishomingo says he'll try again to add the Blue River in southern Oklahoma to the list of scenic rivers in the state.
Roan calls the river beautiful and says if the water level is raised by ten feet it could challenge the Illinois River as a destination for tourists.
Roan sponsored legislation in 2003 to put the Blue River under
the oversight of the state's Scenic Rivers Commission, but the bill
was pulled. Another effort to designate the river as scenic died in
committee last year.
Scenic Rivers Commission Administrator Ed Fite says he supports
adding another river to the scenic list. The last river designated
as scenic was Little Lee Creek in 1975.
The effort to designate the Blue River as scenic is opposed by
the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, which says the policy would shut down
