11-26-05 – A Denton County Sheriff’s deputy had to be flown to the hospital by medical helicopter after his patrol car was rear-ended Friday night. The patrol car’s gas tank ruptured and then burst into flames.
The wreck happened just before 11:00 p.m. Deputy Billy Wilson was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of Highway 380 and FM 720 when his car was hit by a pick-up truck.
A Sheriff’s intern was also in the patrol car. 24-year-old Kelly Fair was also flown to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns on both hands and has been treated and released.
Deputy Wilson was taken to Parkland with 1st and 2nd degree burns to his face and 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his hands and arms.
Traffic along 380 was shut down for four hours.
The driver of the truck was taken to the hospital for blood tests. DPS is investigating the wreck.
So far, no charges have been filed.
