11-28-05 - High winds have caused sporadic power outages and grassfires. However, no evacuations have been ordered for counties in the KXII viewing area except in rural portions of northwestern Carter County and southern Stephens County.
At least four homes were destroyed in fires in Velma-Alma.
Sunday afternoon, firefighters in Carter County battled massive grassfires in Velma-Alma, Fox, Healdton, and Wilson. Evacuations were ordered for Wilson, but that fire is back under control.
According to Carter County Emergency Management officials, 3 firefighters were injured Sunday – but their injuries are minor.
Two grassfires are also reported in Denison. One is located east of 120 and firefighters are trying to keep it from spreading to homes in the area. Another fire near Highway 75 and 91 is also burning, but no evacuations are being ordered.
A fire in Cooke County has firefighters from several departments in the area. The blaze is burning near FM 371 north of Gainesville. Firefighers are trying to get it under control, but no structures are threatened at this time.
Firefighters in Love County are battling a blaze near I-35 between exits 1-5. No structures are threatened in that blaze.
Large grassfires are also stretching resources in Marshall County. Again, no homes are threatened in that area.
Power outages are also reported in Ada, Calera, Durant, and Ravia.
