Turner Falls Hoping to Get Facelift

12-2-05 - A popular tourist destination in Southern Oklahoma could soon be changing its look. Turner Falls in Davis wants to update the park and is hoping the city agrees.

More than 200,000 people visit Turner Falls Park every year, and the park is hoping an expansion will being even more to town not just during the summer but the winter as well.

The park as been working on the idea for the past three years, and so far the plans are preliminary. It does include a new retail shopping center at the camping area on the top of the falls and more cabins plus a lodge near the falls main pool.

Right now the park only has one cabin and six RV's for visitors to rent. This plan would triple that number.

"It's what the customers are asking for," Turner Falls Park Director Tom Graham said. "My office receives about 50 phone calls a day in the summer from people who want more lodging in the park."

But before any ground breaking can happen, the plans first have to be approved by the Davis City Council. On Thursday, Graham was out with an architect trying to get a figure on how much it would all cost to build.

Turner Falls Park will present their plan to the City Council on December 13th, and there is no word yet if they will vote on the issue.
