Big Business Set to Open in Sherman

12-2-05 - A $10 million business is almost up and running in Grayson County, and it will be the fourth of its kind in the US.

Since August, the inside of the building has been completely transformed into a railroad tie production plant, but these aren't your typical wood ties. They are ones that last longer and are better for the environment.

Greg Wilson, his brother and father are behind the company. They are from Paris, Texas, but chose Texoma instead because it's close to major railroads, the Burlington-Northern and Santa Fe.

The plastic ties that the plant will produce are made from 100 percent recycled products such as carpet scraps, and they will last 50 years longer than wood ties.

The Sherman Economic Development Corporation is offering the plant over $80,000 in incentives if they hold up their end of the bargain which includes hiring at least 50 employees over the next three years and continue to operate successfully.

The plant is expecting to begin manufacturing those railroad ties as early as next month.
