12-5-05 – Taking the “Holy” out of the holiday has made headlines across the country and Christians are speaking out. It seems some retailers are listening to concerns that Christmas is becoming very politically correct.
The spruce that lights up the night at the nation’s capital is called a Christmas tree, but also a “holiday” tree.
The tone and wording of national retailers has drawn fire from groups like the American Family Association. They’ve mounted a boycott against stores like Target and K-Mart for using the word “holiday” instead of Christmas in the marketing campaigns.
Some in Texoma have even complained about the Marine Corps Toys for Tots “Giving Tree” set up in Sherman. Volunteers say the complaints stem from a misunderstanding because the tree was named for the act of giving back to the community – not to be politically correct.
