12-9-05 - A Southwest Airlines jetliner trying to land in heavy snow slid off a Chicago runway, crashed through a fence and slid into a busy street. It hit one vehicle and pinned another beneath it.
Authorities say that a six-year-old boy in one of the vehicles
was killed. He was among eight people hurt on the ground. An
Aviation Department spokeswoman says two passengers on the plane
suffered minor injuries.
Southwest Airlines Flight 1248 from Baltimore was landing at
Midway International Airport with 90 passengers. The airport
reported seven inches of snow Thursday, but the Aviation Department
spokeswoman says runway conditions at the time were acceptable.
