ARDMORE, Okla. - Oklahoma Gas and Electric customers should expect to see an average increase of about $15 per month beginning on their July bills to pay for higher fuel prices.

The state's largest utility announced yesterday the increase will begin on July 1st.

The utility said it needs an additional $30 per month from customers to keep pace with rising costs, but has opted to defer half of this increase until fall when most people use less electricity and overall power bills are lower.

OG&E spokesman Gene Fryer says the increase is the result of rising costs of natural gas and other fuels used to generate electricity.

"The price that we were paying per unit of natural gas was about $7. We presently are paying $11.50."

By law, the utility recovers only the actual costs of the fuels it uses, and the increase does not require approval by the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

"This is a pass-through charge that OG&E has that is approved by the corporation commission of the state of Oklahoma. There is no profit or money made on the fuel adjustment charge, it's strictly a pass-through. What we pay for fuel is passed on to our customers," Fryer said.

Public Service Company of Oklahoma, a Tulsa-based utility, already has implemented its fuel-cost adjustment.

That $15 charge will appear on the July billing cycle.

OG&E serves almost 800,000 retail customers in Oklahoma and western Arkansas.

We are not dependent on foreign countries for our natural gas and coal, yet prices continue to rise. Makes me wonder how we could possibly expect lower oil and gasoline prices if we produced all of our own oil here.

Did some quick research and found the following tidbits. Enjoy! From 2003-2007 "2008 not listed yet" Chesapeake Energy has recieved $9,319,806.00 Of your Tax dollars through the "quality jobs" program! Companies recieve quartely cash payments up to six percent of payroll in exchange for creating jobs. The state has paid out over $526,000,000.00 through the program, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission! Thats $526 million folks! Wow what a deal! I can clearly see that our taxdollars are being spent where they need to be! And to our elected officials I want to say thanks for being such a good steward of the public's money. I think im fixin to be sick... Might want to look for yourself at: newsok.com, under news, your right to know theprowlingowl.com

Saturday, June 21, 2008 12:40 PM CDT Jay Paul Gumm Hello again, everybody! The national economic slowdown continues to concern us all. Even so, Oklahoma got some good economic news this week. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis reported Oklahoma’s personal income grew by 0.9 percent from the fourth quarter of 2007 through the first quarter of 2008. In the south, only four states – Texas, Florida, Georgia and Virginia – outperformed Oklahoma in personal income growth. Another highly paid executive is Aubrey McClendon, CEO of Chesapeake EnergyCHK, a producer of natural gas and oil. McClendon made $116.8 million last year. The developers, led by Chesapeake Energy Corp. chairman Aubrey McClendon and Chapparal Energy Inc. chairman Mark Fischer, previously bought about 750 acres of adjacent state property for $14.6 million and also hope to buy about 900 acres of land from the Army Corps of Engineers for use in their project.

Here's a couple of Quotes for ya! That is why the Legislature this year renewed a tax credit I initially sponsored a few years ago. Under the law, deep gas wells – deeper than 15,000 feet – are exempt from gross production taxes for either four or five years, depending on their depth. It is this gas exploration and drilling that is directly responsible for most of the growth in Oklahoma’s personal income. Indirectly, we all benefit – even those of us without gas leases and royalty checks. The Senate Energy and Environment Committee, of which I have been co-chair for the past two years, conducted a study last summer on our state’s energy reserves. We were given an interesting fact. With the advances in geology and our ability to find gas reserves deep in the Oklahoma soil, there are now more known gas reserves in Oklahoma than at any time in our history. We want that gas used to brighten our futures, and the deep well tax exemption is the key to ensuring that happens.

And just one more thing to consider folks! How are all of these profits being spent? Well other than buying a few elected officials, they are also buying up your public lands! Ever hear of Point Vista? Rhonda your buddy had a major part in that fleecing as well. Isn't it nice to know that part of your utility bill and taxes are building a playground for the wealthy! In Southern Oklahoma we call this economic development, and real progress!

Posted by: WAKE UP PEOPLE Location: You Deserve It! on Jun 27, 2008 at 11:38 AM
Sue, I can tell you how is making all the profits! In Oklahoma its Chesapeak Energy and their cronies. Rhonda, Jay Paul help these people? ROFL, Thats like getting the Wolf to watch the hen house. OG&E,PSO, and Another utility had plans to build another powerplant, construction was set to begin this fall. Their reason for doing so was due to the stranglehold the natural gas producers had over fuel costs. 9 out of 11 powerplants in Oklahoma are powered by natural gas. Chesapeak and others fought them all the way to the corporation commision, which naturally shot the utility's down due to the producer's influence and kickbacks. Chesapeak and other producers are making record profits. Did you know that good o'l Jay Paul authored/support the bill's that allows them to pay little or no tax on their production of gas via common deep well's? How about the state check's these company's recieve for hiring employee's they would have hired anyway?

What are the elderly that are on fixed incomes supposed to do. It has come down to whether they will pay their utility bills, buy food or buy their medication. If they are not on Medicare and have no help, then they are basically up the creek. The utility companies say they are not making a profit, if they are not then who is? It certainly is not the consumers. We conserve every way we can, but it is still not enough.

THE COST OF WATER IN CALERA IS SO HIGH, THE BASIC WATER BILL IS $95.00 AND MORE ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A FLOWER POT, I SURE CAN'T AFFORD A GARDEN. THE PRICING OF EVERYTHING IS RIDICULOUS THE WATER BILL WAS THAT HIGH BEFORE EVERYTHING ELSE STARTED GOING UP.. AND TO TOP IT OFF... THE WATER IS TERRIBLE AND MOST OF THE TIME BROWN!!!

I don't mind a rise, it's been coming for a while, but what concerns me, are senior citizens. There needs to be some kind of income limit on utilities for these people. I know several that live on between 750 and 900 dollars a month and after they pay about 325 for electric, water, gas, and phone, (they say cable is a luxury) there isn't much left for gas and groceries and one person getting 8-900 per month can't get much from welfare. This needs to be addressed before everyone reading this is in their 80's waiting for some one from a church to bring them a fan!

My electric bill runs me about 175 to 200 dollars a month. I have everything energy efficent in my home. 4 bedroom home and that is what it takes to have a low electric bill. My A.C. is set on 72 and it feels so good. I would not say bad things about how the electric company work. These people come out in bad storms and lightening, whether it is cold or hot, and work through butts off to get the when your electric is out to get it back on.

anonymous in ardmore. Why when stuff goes up you have to think people get raises??? Let me tell you one thing. Lineman work in heat, rain, snow, wind, lightning and freezing tempatures. Very dangerous if you ask me. Their job's aren't your average 8-5 jobs. Lineman's work is never done. My husband can come home for 15 minutes just about to sit down to eat when his phone goes off for an outage. Sometimes he never comes home till the following afternoon. You can forget about planning anything because if there is a storm he is out. They miss kid's games, birthdays, holidays. And to hear people say that the reason electric bill's go up is because of a raise is a disgrace to me. Yes lineman are paid good, but the work is very hard. You can get killed in an instant. Would you risk your live for min. wage? Oh and the trucks they drive to turn elec on, turn elec off, read meters, build services, repairs and outages don't exactly run on water.

Hey now, I keep my AC set at 82º (which is quite warm, I sweat most the time) and it still costs me $200 a month in the summer for that (my normal bill when I do not use my AC is $150, it's $350 in the summer). I have young kids, I cannot turn off the AC totally.

$5.15 an hour? You have to live with your parents if you make 8 or 10 an hour.

Posted by: Alice Cooper on Jun 25, 2008 at 10:11 AM
Everything is going up. It takes gas and coal to make electric and when gas is high of course it is going to make the elec bill go up. It's not the elec company's fault. My bill for one month with the ac on was 130.00. I filled my truck up to drive to work for one week at 85.43, (340.00) @ 4 weeks!!! Needless to say i lived cool, cooked, did laundry, watched tv, kept my food cold, took hot showers for a whole month, that's cheaper than i could drive to work. If you are worried about your elec bill being so high don't turn your ac on. You pay for what you use people!!!

Get on welfare and food stamps and what ever program their is to help out. When your kid turns 14 or 15 put his or her lazy butt to work, and kick out any lazy bumbs in the house, get rid of the pet and put the old folks in the resthome but keep their retirement. Thats how you make it!

$5.15 an hour people live with their parents. The people that are too good or too lazy to make $5.15 an hour are the ones you see in the robbery section of the headlines.

There are several companies I know of in the Texoma area that are running 10-50% increases in sales over last year! Wow. I'm seriously shocked. I do agree though; generally speaking, everything is going up, and our salaries are not! I think the next 2-6 years is going to really show some interesting things as gas continues to increase and will reach projections of up to 10 dollars per gallon within 7 years or so. Here is what I don't get - I run an online business and I work full time at the office, and make good money. I STILL STRUGGLE. How do people that make %5.15 per hour do it? Please, someone fill me in.

I'm with First Choice Power here in TX. I was paying 14.3¢/kwh for the past year or two, and I just got a letter in the mail last week that says my rate is going up to 21¢/kwh! A 50% increase! That is stinkin' insane, I have relatives in other states who are paying 10-11¢! Why does it have to be so expensive here?

Posted by: anonymous Location: ardmore on Jun 24, 2008 at 04:23 PM
it's not because of fuel it's so they can get raises they know we are in a fix now are country is in trouble
