ARDMORE, Okla. -- Oklahoma State Parks are getting a shot in the arm this summer as the Legislature funnels much needed money earmarked for improvements.

Each state park will get a piece of the pie, although it will vary by location as to exactly how much is awarded. Officials with Lake Murray State Park say they will be able to improve playground equipment and cabins. It is cash they have come to rely on each year to make enjoying nature more enjoyable.

"This is part of the capital improvement program. This is actually the third year for it. A portion of a dedicated tax that the legislatures set up for us and only can be used for capital improvement projects within the state parks," Bryce Todd at Lake Murray State Park says.

Officials say there is a huge need for improvements of all kinds at state parks across Oklahoma.

I sure hope they spend some time and money on the cabins and bathrooms at group camps 1 and 2. They are in serious need of repair and maintenance. Or do those not matter since they are out of site and not near the lodge and golf course?
