12-21-05 - District Attorney Mitch Sperry passed away at his Ardmore home early this morning. A medical examiner said Wednesday afternoon that the 44-year-old died of a heart attack caused by an enlarged heart.
He served district 20, which covers Carter, Love, Marshall, Murray and Johnston counties.
Sperry was elected in 1998, and was named District Attorney of the year in Oklahoma in 2004. He was also elected this year to serve as a Chickasaw Nation legislator.
Sperry was only 44 -years-old. He leaves behind a wife and two children. Funeral services are set for Friday, December 23rd at 2pm. Services will be held at the 1st United Methodist Church in Ardmore.
1st Assistant DA Charles Migliorino will fill Sperry's role on a temporary basis. It will be up to Governor Brad Henry to fill the democrat's seat for the remainder of his term, which runs through the rest of next year.
