12-27-05 - An explosive device blew apart a mailbox in rural Grayson County Tuesday. Grayson County deputies got the call around 9am - a homeowner in the 6700 block of Plainview Road west of Sherman says he heard an explosion around midnight.
But daylight showed his steel mailbox had been the victim of an explosion. The 1/8 inch steel was warped and the door was blown off.
Inside the mailbox, authorities found what appeared to be a small drink can. Both ends were blown off and the entire can was charred. Authorities believe the explosion was fueled by gunpowder.
In October, several mailboxes were targeted with homemade bombs in Marshall County. Two men were charged and arrested.
