Hope came from the air for firefighters on Thursday afternoon. Two airplanes loaded with flame retardant strafed sections of Caney Creek Road. Reinforcements arrived on the ground by sunset as crews from the Wildland Forestry Division will use bulldozers to smother the fires for good.
The southern Bryan county area around Colbert, Achille and Calera has been burning for 3 days straight. Flames re-ignited on Thursday around midday.
The airplanes flew in from Ft Smith, Arkansas. In all, 19 fire departments have fought the Bryan County fires. They’ve also been aided by countless volunteers and some firefighters who’ve come from as far away as South Carolina.
