12-31-05 – Firefighters in Denison battled a large grassfire Saturday afternoon. It started near a home in the 700 block of East Texas.
Firefighters say a homeowner was using a meat smoker early Saturday morning and one of the coals rolled onto the grass and ignited a fire later in the day.
Firefighters say the homeowner poured water on the smoker, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the fire.
Three acres of land were burned and a home was damaged in the blaze. It took firefighters more than four hours to contain the fire.
