PARIS, Tex. -- The city of Paris is using technology to help better respond to emergencies around the city and county. Daniel Gotera has more about the new 911 system.

Officials with the Paris Police Department say advanced technological software to help efficiently manage 911 emergency calls is the wave of the future, and so far it seems to be working.

Paris police inaugurated a brand new, state of the art communications system on May 6, featuring multiple computer stations and a program that helps dispatchers communicate information with police and emergency personnel on the scene.

As part of the new technology, officers are now alerted of any hazards that they might encounter on a call including dangerous chemicals, even a vicious dog.

The $700,000 system also allows officers to research records while they are in the car. Officials say they are already seeing better results when it comes to communication, and they think they will only get better.

"They can gather all that data, which they absolutely could not have done before, so it really helps them technologically to be way ahead of the curve to try and research a call," Lt. Danny Huff of the Paris Police Department says.

In two weeks, the new system will allow officer to send their reports from the car in order to cut back on man power hours back at the station.
