1-17-06 - The city of Atoka honored one of their own as a hero Tuesday night. Freddie Stark helped save a boy from an attacking pit bull 2 months ago. The council gave him a plaque just before their meeting.
Nick McMaster, age 11, was attacked by the dog when he went into the backyard of a family friend. The dog, named Lucky, broke his leg. Nick underwent 2 surgeries since then.
But his family says it would have been much worse if Stark hadn't been riding by on his bicycle. He heard Nick screaming and came to the rescue by throwing rocks and distracting the dog long enough for Nick to get away.
