2-6-06- Monday night the city council of Sherman voted yes on an ordinance that will change the look of one neighborhood. Officials expected a packed house with residents of the College Park College Park District to voice some concern on what creating an overlay district would mean for the future of their neighborhood.
College Park is an older neighborhood in need of repair. The proposed ordinance will set aesthetic requirements like minimum square footage for new homes built in the area as well as restrictions on things like chain link fences and car ports.
Though the proposal only applies to new construction, many current residents hadconcerns. Representatives from Austin College say an overlay district would greatly benefit the school.
The proposal will take effect immediatly.
