OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A bill proposed by Gov. Brad Henry that
would create a sales tax holiday for back-to-school shoppers to
match a similar holiday in Texas passed a state Senate committee
The measure would create a three-day sales tax holiday during the first weekend of August. The sales tax holiday would coincide with a period when Texas exempts back-to-school purchases from taxation.
Another bill that would exempt Hornets basketball tickets from sales tax also passed through the Senate committee. Henry said that tax exemption would help keep the commitment state leaders made when the NBA team temporarily moved to Oklahoma City from hurricane-ravaged New Orleans before this season.
Both bills now go to the full Senate for consideration
