2-7-06 - A Colbert school teacher is the target of a police investigation after allegations he had a sexual affair with a 16-year-old female student. No charges have been filed yet, but the D.A. just received the case.
Police say they have gathered phone records that show the student and teacher communicated outside of school.
The assistant DA handling the case says she is waiting on more evidence before deciding to file formal charges. If a charge is filed, it would be for second degree rape. The legal age of consent in Oklahoma is 16, but if the case involves a student and a teacher in the same school system, criminal charges can be filed.
No arrests have been made in this case, and we're told the teacher is still working at the school. The high school principal says he is aware of an investigation but could not comment. Police say they've interviewed the teacher in this case. He told police he did not have a sexual relationship with the student.
