COOKE COUNTY, Tex. -- Authorities in Cooke County are looking for a man they say hit an 18-year-old girl and then sped off around 9 p.m. Wednesday on a bridge crossing Lake Ray Roberts along FM 3002.

Authorities say Christina Sailor of Gainesville was crossing the bridge with a man when she was hit. The driver of the truck was later stopped by several witnesses, brought back to the scene, and then sped off once again.

The driver is described as a white man in his late 40’s to early 50’s, with a white mustache and a grey crew cut hairstyle. He was driving a white pickup truck, with black ranch hand front bumper and grill guard, roll bar lights and orange clearance lamps on top.

The victim was flown to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and is listed in critical condition.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Texas Highway Patrol at 903-813-3430.

This is a bad place this time of year. kids jumping off the bridge. Some of these teens run from one side of the road to the other to get a running start at going over the side. Last year I had to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting some of the kids strolling across the road. It is 65 thru there, no parking and the police seem to be powerless to stop this dangerous situation from continuing

The suspected person who hit the car was chased and finally talked too, but he did not return to the scene. My husband and I came upon the scene immediately after it happened and stayed to help throughout the process. Two of the eye witnesses chased the suspect. They didn't realize they had come upon the suspect and his friend when they stopped to ask them if they were responsible. It wasn't until they got back to the scene minutes later that they realized the person they had happened upon was actually the most likely suspect. Christina's friend that was escorting her on the bridge described a very similar vehicle to them once they got back to the scene.
